Foodie Pen Pals: August 2013

Stephanie's wonderful package!

In a nutshell: This month’s Foodie Pen Pals experience brought me goodies from “The Natural State” of Arkansas!

Time to tune in for another month of Foodie Pen Pals! Each month, the program pairs participants (both bloggers and blog readers) to send fun foodie things, local food items, homemade treats, and the like to each other within a spending limit of $15.

For the month of August, I was assigned to Laura at @lhall5598. Knowing her to be a popcorn and nut fanatic, I knew exactly what to send. My favorite item that I sent to her was a mix of Macadamia CaramelCrisp and Cashew CaramelCrisp from Garrett Popcorn (I resisted the temptation to buy my own bag!). The RitterSport flavor I included–Knusperkeks, milk chocolate enveloping a crisp butter biscuit–is a close second.

My package this month came from Stephanie of Playfully Tacky. Thanks a bunch for the unique and delicious local Arkansas treats!

McClard’s Seasoning: This barbecue restaurant based in Hot Springs, AR, sells the various seasonings that they use in their dishes; this month, I became the owner of my own McClard’s shaker! Sweet with a touch of salt and spice, the seasoning was quickly sprinkled liberally over my various meals: french fries, eggs, avocados, chicken, etc.
War Eagle Mill Gourmet Popcorn: Home-popped popcorn is a blast (literally)! While not as quick or simple as throwing a bag in the microwave, this tasted fresh and popped in such beautiful colors!
The Resident Chef’s Red Velvet Cheeseball: I had never heard of a cheeseball before, but was glad to be introduced to it! This dessert version simply needs the dry ingredients to be mixed with cream cheese, stored in the fridge until the ball sets, and served with cookies/crackers/spoons.

For my past Foodie Pen Pals experiences, check them out here.

The cheeseball has really caught my imagination – do you think there is the possibility of a home-made (read made in my kitchen in the UK) replication possibility?

    1. I think so! Here’s one version I found online using red velvet cake mix: http://www.tasteandtellblog.com/red-velvet-cheese-ball/
Something cool I found out about the cheeseball recipe is that it can be modified for use as a pie filling!
